Overall Objective

The Research Scientific Group of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the Islamic Republic of Iran operates to enhance the Academy’s research capacity and to assist in addressing the country’s health-sector challenges.

Specific Objectives

1. Participate in monitoring national research policies, programs, and the research landscape by providing consultation, theorization, and foresight.
2. Propose and establish research priorities aligned with the Academy’s strategic programs.
3. Evaluate and approve research projects and related activities.
4. Monitor and assess the progress and outcomes of research projects and activities.
5. Strengthen integration among the scientific and research activities of the Academy’s scientific groups.
6. Enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the scientific and research activities of the Academy’s scientific groups.
7. Promote the utilization and exploitation of scientific and research outputs produced by the Academy’s scientific groups.

Duties

1. Coordinate and integrate the research activities of the Academy’s scientific groups.
2. Provide consultation and collaborate with scientific groups on strategic planning and program development.
3. Review research proposals and recommend amendments to improve project design and relevance.
4. Supervise research implementation, oversee knowledge translation and application, and submit periodic reports.
5. Participate in implementing a knowledge-management system within the Academy.

6. Encourage and incentivize researchers to pursue innovation and produce applied scholarly work by facilitating referrals to the Academy’s Scientific Deputy and other relevant bodies.
7. Propose and organize workshops, seminars, and training sessions on research methods and knowledge transfer to foster capacity building.
8. Define and recommend indicators for evaluating research quality and performance endorsed by the Academy.
9. Collaborate in reviewing, supervising, and evaluating books published under the Academy’s name.
10. Collaborate in evaluating researchers’ activities and achievements for the purpose of identifying and nominating outstanding scientists and researchers of the year.
11. Give advisory consultation to senior oversight bodies and the Ministry of Health and Medical Education (policy-making and supervisory levels) to strengthen health-research governance.
12. Establish and maintain cooperation with research centers, universities, and health institutions.
13. Participate in drafting a strategic research program consistent with the Academy’s objectives.
