Dental Sciences Group
The Dental Sciences Group of the Academy of Medical Sciences commenced its activities in 1992, and has held 367 sessions to date. The Group comprises nine members, all of whom are experienced and committed faculty members from the dental schools of national universities (Tehran, Shahid Beheshti, Isfahan, Shiraz, and Mashhad). The Group convenes regularly at least once a month, in addition to numerous meetings of its subgroups (Research, History and Terminology).
In accordance with the Constitution of the Academy of Medical Sciences, the Group’s objective is to promote and develop the national dental health system by raising awareness and empowering the public, with an emphasis on prevention and on improving the quality of education and clinical care through advisory support and advocacy.
Strategic programs of the Group in the field of dentistry include:
Participation in policymaking and planning for the national dental health system and the promotion of equity in the provision of dental services.
Surveillance, monitoring, and macro-level assessment of health status.
Participation in the formulation of inclusive policies and strategies for public health.
Efforts to expand the frontiers of knowledge and to continuously enhance the level of research and scholarship nationally.
Studying and reviewing other countries’ experiences and working toward the transfer and development of relevant sciences and technologies.
Reviewing and proposing standards to raise the scientific quality of academic meetings, and supporting active scientific societies.
Promoting the dissemination of dental and medical knowledge through specialty journals.
Collaboration and provision of advice on the design and delivery of educational programs across various professional domains, taking into account societal needs and prevailing conditions.
Supporting the promotion of oral health with an emphasis on prevention and advocating for the adoption of novel treatment methods.
Consultation and collaboration aimed at promoting professional ethics, cultural improvement, and public awareness regarding prevention and treatment in dentistry.
Supporting the development of research and the promotion of community-oriented education.
Monitoring and promoting the adoption of innovative dental treatment methods.
Proposing Persian equivalents for foreign terminology used in dentistry.
Providing consultative services referred to the Group.
