Strategic Plan
In light of the necessity of the principle of “constructive and effective engagement with the world based on the values of dignity, wisdom, and expediency” enshrined in the Twenty-Year Vision Document of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and with the aim of establishing constructive scientific cooperation with advanced international scientific and technological health institutions to meet societal needs and advance the frontiers of knowledge, and within the framework of implementing the duties set forth in the Constitution of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the Islamic Republic of Iran concerning cross-border cooperation: the International Scientific Cooperation Group on Health seeks to establish purposeful, continuous, and effective relations aligned with the Academy’s objectives with regional and international health organizations, institutions, and bodies, while actively contributing to international health discussions and leveraging global opportunities in this regard.
Strategic Objectives
- Playing an active role in promoting health in the region and the world through participation in international health discussions and by drawing upon the valuable experiences and achievements of the health system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
- Benefiting from international experiences to improve the health status within the country.
- Enhancing interaction with academies of sciences and health institutions in other countries.
- Strengthening international cooperation in the health sector.
Programs
- Regular review of current issues raised by the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and other relevant organizations, in consultation with their representatives and with domestic and international experts and stakeholders.
- Providing advisory input by the Academy of Medical Sciences of Iran in the policies and programs of health-oriented international organization.
- Utilization of advisory guidance from health-focused international organizations to advance the country's health objectives.
- Planning for the engagement with regional and international organizations such as the G-5 member countries, the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in coordination with their representatives and with the ambassadors of member states accredited to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
- Planning of relations and interactions with foreign academies of sciences through conventional diplomatic channels.
- Developing strategies to facilitate regional and international research exchanges.
- Exploring strategies to engage Iranian expatriate experts in order to leverage their scientific capacities for achieving the objectives of the Academy.
- Expansion of cooperative activities between domestic and foreign universities of medical sciences.
- Improvement of the process of dispatching faculty members and researchers in the health sector to international seminars and congresses.
- Comparative study of the health programs of the Islamic Republic of Iran with similar programs in selected countries.
